Homemade Churros
Let's make homemade churros just like the ones sold by street vendors!
Ingredients
- •2 cups water (500 ml)
- •6 level tablespoons sugar (80 g)
- •5 tablespoons butter or margarine (70 g)
- •4 medium eggs (5 eggs if small)
- •2 cups plain flour (320 g)
- •(1 pinch of salt, if desired)
- •Oil for frying
- •Sugar and cinnamon
- •Dulce de leche / hazelnut spread
Instructions
- 1
In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter and sugar, and bring to a boil.
- 2
Once boiling and everything is combined, add all the flour at once and stir well for about 5 minutes.
- 3
As soon as the dough pulls away from the bottom of the pan, turn off the heat.
- 4
Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer and let it cool until lukewarm.
- 5
Then add the eggs gradually, beating until fully incorporated and the dough is smooth.
- 6
Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with your preferred tip, and heat the oil well in a saucepan.
- 7
When the oil is hot, pipe the dough into the oil, using scissors to cut it to the desired length.
- 8
Fry until golden, then roll the churros in sugar and cinnamon.
- 9
Serve with dulce de leche or hazelnut spread.
