Crispy Fried Onions
Discover how to make delicious, restaurant-style crispy fried onions at home.
Ingredients
- •2 large onions
- •1 teaspoon salt
- •1 dessertspoon smoked paprika
- •1/2 cup or 50 grams cornstarch
- •1 cup (220 ml) all-purpose flour
- •1 coffee spoon salt
- •Oil for frying
Instructions
- 1
Peel and thinly slice the onions, then place them in a bowl with plenty of water. Stir well and drain.
- 2
Refill the bowl with water, soak the onions for 10 minutes, then drain again.
- 3
Season the sliced onions with the smoked paprika and 1 teaspoon of salt, mixing thoroughly.
- 4
Mix the flour, cornstarch and 1 coffee spoon of salt, then coat the onions in the mixture.
- 5
Place a small batch of onions in a sieve and shake briskly to remove excess flour.
- 6
Gently heat enough oil to fry the onions, add the first batch and fry until golden, stirring to move the onions from the edges toward the center.
- 7
Remove the onions from the oil with a slotted spoon, let the excess oil drain off and transfer to a plate lined with paper towels.
- 8
Repeat the process with the remaining onion slices: shake off excess flour in the sieve, fry until golden and transfer to the paper towels.
- 9
Once the paper towels have absorbed the excess oil, the crispy fried onions are ready to serve.
